Thumbs up Re: Check Engine Light

2 cents worth.

K&N filter installed 18/01/2010. No engine lights.

I have said this many times on this forum, and don't want to sound like a broken record, but.....

.......your engine light could be from a dirty O2 sensor.

Before the stealership wants to replace it, do yourself a favor and run a bottle of Crappy Tire Xtra concentrated fuel system cleaner through your next fill up tank of gas.

If it is a dirty sensor, the light should reset before the end of the tank.

If it resets, repeat the process and it should stay out.

No, any Xtra concentrated will do the same job.

The reason I say Crappy Tire is because it is half the price of Penzoil, Slick 50, etc. and exactly the same stuff!!!

Hi 1move, does "safe mode" mean hesitation? That is what happens with my 2003 a4quattro (75,000 miles). I bought it 3 weeks ago. The car has been to the mechanic at least once a week. This light keeps coming back. The mechanic has changed 2 sensors and says he cannot find anything wrong with the car. Long story short, he resets it, the car works better. I just bought a new gas cap and put some fuel system cleaner, hoping that it will do the trick. If this is the problem, would the computer reset the light by itself?

One more thing, there is a funny noise coming from the panel, like a cd player trying to find a track, is this the computer trying to find the problem or reset it?

Thank you so much for your help

I am using K&N filter and I oil it back and forth twice a year with whatever I have. It does not affect my check engine light at all.
