Which car

So I bought a 2000 TT for a toy and really love it!

So now we're looking at replacing my wife's Volvo S60. We took out a 2008 A4 which she really liked. Then we tried a 2008 BMW 328xi which wasn't so great (compared to the A4.)

Next week we'll go back and try out another A4, auto this time and a 2007 A6 Avant with the 3.2.

So the A4's are both CPO, 45km and $29800. The A6 (CPO) has 72Km and is an Avant at $31800.

Now looking at the A4's I see the 2010 models are larger, that's good so perhaps we'll look at leasing new.

So question is; which one?

The other option is keep driving the Volvo, paid $46k for it new and now it's only worth $5k, depreciation sucks that's why we're looking at used...

If you're the type of person who wants something new every 5yrs..LEASE. If you plan on keeping it for more then 5yrs buy the CPO audi, either one seems like a good buy all depends on if you want more cargo room with the avant.
I personally would rather buy the A4 NEW...If you buy the CPO in 5yrs from now 2008 model will be 2016(current year is 2011 ;P) 8yrs old and you'll probably be thinking it needs to go once more..save yourself the hassle.

You get a new car, lower monthly payment(s), basically can drive the crap out of it(yes i know some of you already do this) with no worry of fixing it, and after your lease is up 2 year, 3 year..how ever long.
if you're that kind of person who constantly wants the latest and greatest, leasing is for you.

Personally - I don't think there is one. You get to pay a fixed depreciation over a 2 or 3 year period when the depreciation is the highest, and then you get to do it all again after the lease ends :) :). Nobody's going to give you a new car, guarantee to take it back from you in x years and not lose money on the deal, so guess who gets to take all the risk.

Re: Which car

I dont think leasing should be allowed.

People take advantage of leasing. They turn on the car in a -40 degree weather and drive right away, abuse the interior of the car and drive recklessly (drive over speed bumps at 100 km/hr).

You see dealerships make money when people lease. Certified car owners take the risk afterwards. dealers spend no time and effort checking the car coming back from leasing for the next customer. Inspections take less time than expected. usually the car is ready the next morning all inspected and ready to go as certified.

Leasing should have some laws and regualtions. Some of us car owners take care of the smallest scratch on our car. Scare people who lease with guaranteed big bills if the car wasnt taken care of by the time they turn it in and see what happens. When Money is in the equation, people will change...
