Airbag light on - take it to dealer or elsewhere?

Hi,

My Airbag light has come on and I'm not sure whether I should take it in to the dealer or my independent garage. My car is still under CPO warranty but if the issue is not covered under the warranty then I would rather pay less for the work at the indep. garage.

Does anyone know what the likelihood is of an airbag issue being covered under CPO? There has been no collision, so it must be a connection or something. I scanned with an OBD2 reader and no codes appear. There is also the $100 CPO deductible so if it's likely to be an inexpensive visit I would go to the indep. garage.

Thanks

get someone with a vag-com to check it and try and clear it, also get the code and post it on here and we can usually tell you what the issue is

X2
If, for example, the plug under your seat came loose for even a moment it will throw a code, and even if it gets reconnected the code will still be there. Vag com will be able to tell you which airbag it is from, and if you reset it you can see if it comes right back or not.

Airbag is not a wear and tear scheduled maintenance item like brakes, timing belt or oil change. Absolutely should be covered under CPO. Phone Audi Canada and ask them in advance if you wish.

Audi Canada > Certified Pre-Owned > 300+ Point Inspection describes the list of things they check as part of the Audi certification process. Airbags are part of that so they have checked it at time of CPO inspection, and if it's not working now and you haven't modified anything in that are or had an accident etc, then it should be covered.

You need the code to be sure what you're dealing with but the link here is for a fix for a common problem with B6/B7 cars.
