After reading im afraid to buy....

Hey everyone im new to the forums cause iv never owned a volkswagon/audi. Now iv been very interested in a couple 2007/2008 2.0t s-line a4's as im looking to buy a new car. As we all know they are gorgeouse cars iv been thinking of some light mods like a stage 1 upgrade or so if i do decide to go with an a4. After reading forums and storys all i see is people having problems(and major problems i.e cam/engine failure) this is really concerning as unrealiablity is a major turn off for me, considering that i baby my vehicles i expect them to treat me well in return. I would greatly appreciate any feedback from experianced owners of the b7 a4's considering this in canada is a fairly large investment.

Thank you.

I don't know where you are reading all these problems. Most people here might have some issues for which they are seeking advise on but generally speaking the cars you are looking at are very reliable.

There is a strong group (Calgary Audi Club) in your area that meet up regularly. I suggest you get in touch with them (contact, PM, 1move) and join up on one of their meets to get some perspective.

BTW - Welcome to the forum and let us know what you end up doing.

Hey welcome to the forum.
thanks for the recommendation Mike, to the OP a lot of theses issues on forums are from people that dont know the history of their cars or dont maintain it regularly. With that of a young car you will still have warranty and coverage for any other issues that arise. Most of the members here start out with an issue and come to the forums for help. Dont let the issues turn you away as there are a lot of great cars out there that do not have any problems, look at the audi owners out there and look at the forum member numbers, it is a minute representation of the actual audi drivers community.

With that said you are more then welcome to come out to the meets and meet everyone and see their perspective on these cars. We meet on every second Thursday of the month.

An Audi/VW that has been taken care of will be as reliable as anything else on the road. Buy a car that has been taken care of and stay on top of the regular maintenance.

Re: After reading im afraid to buy....

it's the same with everything out there, if you take good care of it, it will take good care of you.

i've owned my 97 a4 for 7 years now. The previous owner took really good care of it and i do the same. Even with mods, my car is just as reliable as my fiance's civic, my sisters' subaru and volvo, more reliable than my buddy's bmw and on and on.

So don't be afraid, read more about it and be comfortable with it.

Like 1move said, forums are mostly for people to come and seek help. You don't see threads where people say "oh damn, my audi is so reliable" do you? :)

Welcome trama,

Like everyone else has said before me, it depends on the care that has been put into the car in previous years and the care you put into it.

For almost two years I have owned my '01 A4 1.8T and by doing regular maintenance I've had almost no problems at all. The owner before me was an older lady who used it as a grocery car and had service done at the dealership almost every 5000km.

If you are looking to buy a car:

1/ Make sure that service was done regularly and that there are records of the services performed (difficult if it's owned by a mechanic).

2/ DO NOT get attached to the car. If the price is too high, and the seller isn't biting. Don't bother.

3/ If the car has over 120 000km make sure that the car has had its timing belt replaced, if not, make sure you take the price down quite a bit. Don't be scared by this, Audis have rubber timing belts instead of the chains that most people have. Rubber timing belts are more efficient and there is little to no loss in power distributed throughout the motor.

An Audi is the best car you'll own,
-Nick
