A4 "Ignition Coils"
FYI, this morning I purchased an OEM coil pack for my 06 A4 from Mark Motors, Ottawa's Audi dealer. List price was $39. They sold it to me for $35 as I have been a regular customer.
Happened to me last week too. I thought it was the MAF sensor and related intake problem. I cleaned the MAF, installed a new air filter, and cleaned the intake enclosure. THe problem was still there so I took it to my local parts shop to talk to them. THey hooked it up to diagnostic, "Cylinder 2 misfire". Right away he knew it was the coilpack. I ordered one and it showed up the next day. I went in to pick it up and install. It was an STI. It looked the same as oem so I took off and went out on the highway to warm it up. I didn't get 5 minutes out of it and it failed again. I went straight back to the shop where I got it and he told me, "no worries. As soon as we received a STI I knew you'd be back so I ordered a Bremi coilpack. It'll be in tomorrow". Crazy, he knew it was going to fail. I came back the next day and they exchanged my coilpack straight across. I took it out on the highway again and got it up to 220 without problem. Watch out for those crappy coilpacks.
i have a 2004 a4 1.8t and my check engine light is on but not flashing. any chance i have a coil pack problem too? please help i need to take my car up to kelowna without it breaking down...
You're check engine light goes on for any number of reasons but if one of your coil packs fail you'll know it. You'll be running with one cylinder less than usual and the car will shudder like an old diesel. What you need to do is locate someone with a vag tool to plug into your harness and display the reason for your engine light. When my Audi throws a warning light I just go down to my local parts store. They have a code-reading tool that works in most interfaces and displays the error code and related dignostic info. It doesn't allow for manipulation of the settings but it tells me what I need to know. And it's free. There should be an audi group in Van that could set you up with access to a vag-com diagnostic tool. If you take it to the dealership you'll be charged $100 or more just to plug it in. Here in Calgary the local Audi club (on this forum) allows free access to a vag tool for paid members. It's a great deal for the $40 membership fee.

Yeah It is a very common issue However, like someone said DO NOT WASH YOUR ENGINE BAY, this will make them fail for sure, Especially on the 3.0 V6 I had a buddy who washed his and all 6 coils failled wouldnt even turn on.
