Unhappy WET Key remote

Hi all!

This is my first post. I've always used this forum as a go-to for Audi info.

So unfortunately my key/remote got wet and now it is not working. I was hoping someone in the forum would have some knowledge on how to address this issue. I am very reluctant to buy a new key or have them set it up, as it costs a lot of money. Does anyone here have any advise? thank you!

Could try opening everything up and dryng gently with something like a hair dryer - you might be lucky. Unfortunately, electronics/batteries and water aren't a good mix - if you fried something, you fried something and replacement is the only solution.

The "key" to saving wet electronics is to completely dry them before activating them. Try to take it apart like the previous poster suggested and dry it out. If it doesn't work then the cheapest solution is usually to buy a new key on ebay and have someone locally that has VCDS program it for you.

This happened to me once, and I got lucky. Fill a paper bag with (uncooked) rice. Take the battery out of the fob, and put the fob in the bag of rice. Leave it for a couple of days and the rice will slowly absorb the water from the fob.

No guarantees, but it's probably your best bet.

Try to change (or swap with your other FOB) the battery on the FOB before considering it dead.

When my cell phone went for a swim, I dried it completely and thought it was dead. The store tested the dead phone with a new battery before selling me a new one and bingo all was good. That phone lasted me an extra 2 years...

It is worth a try...
Good luck

The top part (Flip out key) should be good. So either on ebay or buy a used remote and re program it. (Bottom part) You can reprogram it using VAG COM if you have one, or the dealer can do it for you.
