I have this 05 A4 for more than 3 years now. Just replaced the valve cover gasket yesterday because found some oil around 2 of the coil packs. Everything went smoothly until I put all the hoses and tubes back to where they supposed to be. I discovered the L vent tube which connect to downward of the valve cover vent hose is broken, it lead to the oil filter adapter and one of the breeder valve. It seems to be broken for a long time because I find tape around the clamp and broken area. It was not done nicely. I didn't have time and material to fix the tube so I left it as is. A few hours later, I drove the car for a couple km yesterday, another 40km today. The car runs like normal. That little tube cost $79.35 plus HST from the Audi parts department. My question is what will effect the car and performance if I don't replace the tube since it had been broken for a while. Or what is the best way to just fix and patch the tube. Anyone!!!

Mine disintigrated from there down through to the Crankcase Breather Valve Assembly a couple of months ago. If it is cracked or broken it may not be idling quite as well as it should. The valve in my breather valve was stuck open so had negative pressure in my crankcase, and left unchecked would probably have developed all kinds of oil leaks etc as the gaskets would have failed. When I went to change the valve assembly, the hose you are talking about, the breather valve assembly and another hose that hooks to the intake from those hoses crumbled like a sugar cone....was a job in itself to get the particles out of the oil breather housing. I doubt that you will be able to get that hose off without damaging the same ones that I did. Having said that, the hose that you are talking about can be substituted for a piece of heater hose of the right diameter, unfortunately the rest can't. They are extremely pricey in Canada....close to 250 dollars for the three little hoses. You can try to run it by using tape, but it will eventually fail and you are better off to bite the bullet and fix it right. Hope this helps.

Just find a link that is exactly what I need to replace. It seems to be a common thing with Audi. Hope this will help other Audi owners and not too hard to DIY. Will do it after I round up the parts!

This was my original post for my problem....the post from Audizine said he took the intake off, but I have big hands and was able to get around everything by moving the coolant tank to the side after removing the one bolt that holds it down. It is tight, but you can do it....comes apart difficult...goes together alot easier. I heated my the ends of the hoses in boiling water and they went on with a little extra effort, but did go together....they talk about sweating them with a torch, but when you are paying 90 bucks for a piece of plastic pipe....I went with the boiling water!! You may have trouble getting the C clip off the Breather Valve Assembly....hooks on the top of the oil filter housing, but again with persistence it comes off no poblem. There are other posts online with Audizine but I can't seem to find them....on is for a 2002 but shows you basically what has to be done. I will try to find that link as there are pictures etc.
