A few weeks ago when I changed my rotors\brakes, we did check visually the belt that looked in great shape,
But most times it is the other components that fail before
I will drop by and take his advice, then I will decide if I chip it APR stage 1 however I did read many places
That all tunes were intented for manuals since any chip would not be a perfect match for the
''Mapping'' of auto\tiptronics

We'll see
Thanks

I have the same year 1.8T USP and Audi told me not to bother until 115k.

Hmmm very conflicting infos from everyone including dealers, independent shops and members...

The belt may be in great condition indeed but what could potentially break are the tensioners...etc
I will have a second opinion and will do it sooner or later oh well

Thanks though!

Ive got a 2003 3.0L with 120k km

I have still yet to replace it..

I'm wondering how many guys have changed it with more then that.

I'm also wondering if "babying" the car will make the timing belt last longer???

thanks

Hey Rob
I am not a mechanic just a fellow car and Audi enthusiast...
You are lucky nothing happened yet, but it is Russian roulette since most times other components fail like the water pump, tensioners....etc causing major damage!

To me preventive maintenance is one thing (Larger oil filter, Full synt oil, clean air filter) but changing oil and spark plugs every 2 months is ridiculous and a total waist if you ask me!

Back to the topic: Mileage determines the detrerioration of your belt and driving habits also play a role since if you "drive it like you stole it" or chip and mod the car WILL have an immediate effect on not only your engine but all other components

So please take my advice and have it looked at instead of waitinf for what excatly since it HAS to be done sooner or later especially since yours is way overdue exceeding the 5 years
Just my 2 cents, hope it makes sense?
