Ouch $1400. On my 1.8t did my timing belt in my garage. kit with waterpump, Tbelt, Tenisone..... cost around $190. Audi wanted $1100.. But then again I've heard 3.0L is expensive.

I just got mine back today from that operation, $279USD for the kit form ECS and $300 ++ at a little garage in Tillsonburg Ontario. One day and very pleased with the job. It really feels like it did when new. Could this affect the power or is it just in my head
Now off to get the dashboard display fixed, but that is another topic
PS - if it is my head don't say anything, having too much fun again today without worrying about that belt

I recently did the timing belt on my 97 A4. It was tough. I had to be very careful and it took most of the weekend to complete. Its not that difficult though if you are mechanically competent. I also bought the cam locking tool for less than $100. Remember to replace the water pump while you (or you mechanic) are in there. An Audi Tech told me that the service book lists it as a 10 hour job. Add parts and you can be in to 1400 range pretty easily.
