Default Timing belt damper

Does anyone know if you can recompress the timing belt damper after it has been removed from the engine. Didn't buy one and the original one has extended after removing my old belt....trying to save some money, but may not in the end!!! Parts are hard to find at my location on short notice!!!

Got it!! Apply lots of ft/lbs to the 8mm hex on the alignment pully....slowly. Used a stubby wide flat blade screwdriver to hold it in place until I got the setting on the tensioner.
