Timing Belt
When is the timing belt due on an A4 1.8T 2003/2004 and how can we save some money on this job, my mechanic tells me its very labor intensive to do the timing belt on the Audis and will cost around $1100.00, what do you guys think?

Re: Timing Belt
I bought it off ebay for 219, my mechanic checked out the kit and said i got a good deal. plus the impeller on the orig. S4 is plastic? or something, but the new one was metal, upgraded. i didnt end up needing it though. except for 1 belt i changed. besides that i have a full kit - the one belt for a 2.7 2001 audi.

Re: Timing Belt
Most of the labour is getting the car into the service position. It is not that hard with a bently manual and average mech.skill. I would wait until it gets warmer and do it in your garage, and pay someone 100-200$ to remove the pulley/cover and replace the belt.Just an idea, it will certainly save you a load of cash.I know a couple of guys that work on the side a bit, one guy worked at Audi for 20 yrs and the other guy worked at a Audi aftermarket tune shop. Both guys are excellent, honest mechanics. I work with one of the guys for eight years now and he does alot of work for us.Let me know if you want me to ask,I"m in the GTA also, and I would be more than happy to help Fellow Audi owner.
