Default Steering and vibration issues

I know there is already a thread for the high speed vibration, but mine is going further, and is starting to affect steering. '02 A4 Quatttro 3.0 Tiptrionic

I get quite pronounced vibration at almost all speeds. And the other day I thought I felt something wierd in the steering almost like it had to over come something when returning to straight. So yesterday I went to an empty parking lot and just did tight circles, not fast, just really tight. And when turning left there was a knocking/bumping about every 1/3 of a circle.

I tend to be a hypocondriac when it comes to my cars, but I'm thinkin this isn't very good, I'm planning to get a local mechanic to look at it sometime soon, but any help here would be grea to get me started. The wierd thing is is that I took it to a dealership about a month ago for service and while I was there had them inspect all the suspension and drivetrain components and they send that they were all in great shape. May they are just ignorant, or maybe I'm just crazy.

Get it inspected, very possible that it is a combination of things anywhere from CV joints that were left damaged too long, control arms, and wheel balancing.

I had something like what you are experiencing and soon after a drive-shaft/CV went on me: and that is a horrible experience if it happens at 120-140 KM/h as it did to me!

DO NOT HAVE A DEALER CHECK IT! My experience with all AUDI dealers and the Head-Office is BAD!

Good luck!

I was thinking cv, but the boots look fine, I'll have my local mechanic take a look (not a dealer), could have been caused by pothole trauma I guess, In the meantime I'll start pricing out some new parts. How long did you have before it went?

For the question asked before:

CV=Continuous Velocity (joint) the thing that puts power to the wheel from the Drive-Shaft, while allowing the wheel to turn (from left to right).

In my case I noticed a noise a little "weird-ness" in the steering; at one point power did not get to the wheels, but then it came back...

I had the car into OWASCO for a complete check and asked them to look at the noise/weird steering issue; they reported that because the car has been lowered (Konny Yellow shocks and NU-Speed springs) the effects are caused by that!!!
4 days later (car warranty just expired 4 days prior) I was driving on 401 and suddenly the power was not getting to the wheels. The wheel with the broken (CV drive-shaft combo) was getting all the power sent to it by the diferential/transfer case combo... therefore the car wasn't going anywhere!

And by the way: the boots looked as good as new on the outside!

That was my experience!

I will just repost my research on this that i posted in the other thread
Hey Guys,
I experienced the same issue (but around speed of 50-65 kmph) and did some research and came up with this Audi Wheel Bearings - Audi Wheel Bearing Kits from $25.95
Can some Audi Gurus here shed some light on this? please

i went to the dealership and had them look at it and they said the same thing.
Just something to look into. Let me know if you have any luck in resolving this issue.

so your saying you think it is your bearings? I'm not sure that its the bill for my issues. I can't see how a bad bearing would affect the steering. Also in my experience, bearings that are on the way out are usually fairly vocal about it (distinct sound). I have little or no noise while driving, just vibration and resistance when steering.

just to update, I had the mechanic take a look, and he didn't know alot about audis but he was pretty confident that it was a cv joint. So I suggested that it could be something to with the steering strut. He seemed to think that it was a better diagnosis and could be the steering strut bearing.

Also I just replaced the rotors, and most of the vibrationhas gone, so as it turns out the steering issues and vibration issues are not directly related.

Has anyone ever had this problem (steering strut bearing gone bad) before, if so any info would be helpful, this isn't a definite diagnosis, so any other input still very welcome

Thanks guys
