Squealing Brake

Squealing Brake
My left rear brake has developed a quiet squeal when I turn left with the brake applied. I have taken it into the shop and they looked at it and are convinced that there is nothing wrong.
Of course it behaved for a day when I took it home then started acting up again. Anyone have any ideas, or have this happen to you?

Re: Squealing Brake
i had a similar thing happen on my old Ford Focus..The brake would squeek everytime i put on the breaks...and there was nothing wrong with the break pads or calipers or anything..i took it in to get fixed, the mechanic told me that sometimes this happens to brakes when an irregular wear pattern happens. The guy said it will fix itself in about 5k km. Sure enough a month or so went past and it was fine again.

Re: Squealing Brake
It's been about that already I would guess. It's been six months, several trips to NY, some to Reading PA, from DC ish.
The dude said that he lubricated the brakes, although I hadn't heard of that before. It worked, oh, for maybe a hundred miles, then started again....

Brucktown good to know! I have a Focus as well and I thought I was going crazy. I have been to two mechanics who said the brakes were fine not that the squeeking would stop. Glad to know that this too shall pass!

Re: Squealing Brake
Have the mechanic checked the brakes to see if dust or dirt is actually on the brake itself. Another thing that can be to check if the brake pads are loose. You can ask the mechanic if he checked for those faults directly, if not have him check.

I can't speak for the others, but yes I had them check that. In fact I had them change the brake pads too in the hopes that it would help. That did nothing, the squealing was back as soon as I turned to leave the lot.

Re: Squealing Brake
Sorry to hear that Wheelwell. My mom actually had a car with the same problem and it turned out that it was a defect in manufacturing. There was nothing wrong with the brakes they were just noisy and annoying.

Re: Squealing Brake
That's what they are insinuating here too. I just don't feel comfortable with it, I think that there might be something else amiss, I just don't have the time or knowledge to look at something like that myself.

Re: Squealing Brake
You should probably take it to someone else to have it checked out. A second opinion is always good and since the person you are now dealing with can't find the problem then I think it' s time to get someone else involved.
