rough idle boggish
hey guys im new on these forums and to audi, im a nissan guy but im trying to help my friend fix his car.
He said he was sitting at a stop light and the car died. He started it back up and the check engine light was on.(it would flash randomly and then stop flashing) the cars idle was a little rough it was dropping down about 300 rpms then it would try and correct itself.
we ran a diagnostic on it and came up with
multi cyl miss fire
cyl 1 random miss fire
cyl 3 random miss fire.
we then pulled the coilpacks and the spark plugs to find out that the valve cover gasket was leaking into cyl 4 spark plug. So we replace the valve cover gasket. start the car up and it sounds and is idling better we take it for like a 2-3 min drive. but it was still alittle boggish when you would get on the gas felt like it was in the wrong gear but did it wasnt...
we pulled it back into the garage open the hood and the downppipe was glowing, and little puffs of smoke would come off of it.
any help would be appreciated greatly

Re: rough idle boggish
Was the check engine light flashing? I had a flashing CEL when I got it done on my A4 3.0. They told me that when a cylinder is not firing (faulty Coil Pack) the gas is not burned and it goes down the pipe and can cook your catalytic converters. That may have something to do with the glowing down pipe, but I'm not 100% sure.
