removing Air pockets in cooling system
hey guys, i have a little problem...
i have a 2002 A4 1.8T and when i turn the heat on, i get heat SOMETIMES. Its more of less intermittent. the water pump is new so i dont think thats the problem.
my next guess is there is air in the system, im trying to take it out but i just ran my car and filled the reservoir in hopes to push out the air. the reservoir didnt even move.
what did i do wrong and tips on how to take out air pockets
please and thanks guys/girls

Re: removing Air pockets in cooling system
run it till the car is hot, then refill it after. When the car is hot, all the air bubles should go to the top. Open the lid and pour coolent in...(when its cold) and then squueze the upper rad hose. if you have air in there you should be able to hear it.
It could also be your heater core. As well as dirt, not air stopping coolent fromentering you heater core.

Re: removing Air pockets in cooling system
When looking at the engine bay from the front of the car, locate the two heater core coolant lines passing thru the firewall. Unclamp the left one and pull rubber hose back until you see the air bleed hole. Unscrew and lift coolant expansion tank as high as it will go (~4") and fill until no more air comes out the air bleed hole. Run engine and check for normal heat operation. The coolant expansion tank is below the gravity level of the heater core lines so this procedure is used to remove all air from the coolant system.
Good Luck

Does it overheat? it could be a sticky thermostat. My best advice is to get it drained and refilled at audi. That way if it continues, you have someone to blame
