Hi, im a noobie so be easy on me :P. Lately i have been using regular fuel on my 2002 audi a4 1.8t quattro and i found on yahoo answers that using regular fuel would decrease my gas mileage and performance. Not only that, they said it could hurt my engine in the long run. Im here for answers from experts because i don't trust yahoo answers. Thx

dude is that the way you treat your baby...damm reg fuel what you puttin in like 87.. look on the gas tank flap thing is says min 91. Damm dude kill that tank off and fill er up with a lil 94 clean it out then go back to 91. i did that to my audi 87, it ran like **** cleaned it out.. and it was better but now ive got a turbo issue

Pretty sure the manual also says premium. I use 91, and once and awhile 94.

Yeah treat her good and she will take care of you, Yeah its not that bad, but i mean once you run higher boost youll see why you dont.

You paid good money for a good car! Do not ruin it by being cheap.

The fact is that what you stated about Yahoo is mostly true; I cannot over emphasize the fact that cheap gas ruins turbo engines: a knock in the turbo engine is the end of it and cheap gas WILL make it knock!

On the other hand: you look after your car and engine, and you will get multiple 100,000K out of it... sometimes on the first turbo too...

I've been a long time Mustang guy (still am) but I'm going to be hopefully adding an Audi to our mix of cars that includes a VW Jetta 2.5. I always find conversations like this a bit funny.

I guess it's a bit of sticker shock at the pumps but the reality is that on a 50L fill, the average uptick between regular and premium gas is $6 a fill. Is that really worth it even filling up weekly it's $24 a month, $312 a year.

For turbo or high performance engines the $300 is a small price to pay if it keeps it out of the shop. A new engine & turbo for a 1.8T is $6000, that's a lot of premium fills to break even with that.

Go with 91 or 92. It's worth it. Besides, do the math. You may pay more at the pump, but you'll receive better km between fill up. Secondly, you'll have a better running engine/turbo with 91 or better. I have a '01T and I don't put anything less than '92 octane. My baby loves it!

oh, and don't 4get to preform at least two oil/filter changes per year with only full synthetic oil and OEM filters Btw, for some stupid reason, Audi specs one oil/filter change per year.

Audis recommended service interval is 16000km's or 1 year for the oil change!!!

I have always put 94 octane in my car and nothing less

I do realize Audi says one change/yr or every 16000km. But, the boys at Cap Audi say otherwise. I've also heard other high-end mech shops mentioning how very important it is to run clean/fresh full syn oil with the turbo models. Therefore, I'll stick with x2 oil changes per year, despite what you say and what is specified by Audi.

Secondly, I just received a supplement letter from Audi Canada. They write, all 2000-2003 A4 and TT models should have their timing belts inspected due to timing belt failure prior to what is specified in the maintenance booklet (167000km). It goes on to inform me to take it to my dealership so they can preform a free-of-charge inspection over this matter.

Case in point; even Audi gets it wrong sometimes.
