Louis:

My humble advice:
This is an amazing Canadian forum and we are here to share our experiences and help each other….my advice is read, read, and read some more

Fact:
1.8T is a tuner’s dream since the upgrades are endless as long as you have deep pockets
1.8T is somewhat sluggish especially when you consider its weights with Quattro.
1.8T is ‘’slow’’ compared with today’s standards
1.8T is a very reliable engine

If I was looking for pure performance I would have opted for a 3.0, S4, RS4. If budget is an issue since it is for most of us anyways… I would suggest a no brainer Infiniti G35, G35X, G37…etc which comes loaded with features & crazy performance/engine.

It is all about choices and priorities. A German car would always have that special feel that would never be matched by any Japanese and a German car would never be as reliable as a Japanese one so pick your poison!

I am in my late 30’s with a young family. I had my youth share of fun with Civic SI’s, Probe GT 24v, RX7, a base Mazda 3 appliance…so my Audi is my daily drive that combines class, refined, luxury along with safety.
When with the family on the highway sure I would have LOVED some additional power but trust me when I feel the need to push it in some rare occasions; I simply slide it to Tiptronic or automatic Sport mode and let it rip and to me I do not wish or need more power period!
FYI: the 1st generation A4 with that 1.8T generated 150hp and when combined with the automatic & Quattro the car was indeed very sluggish.
Sure manufacturers may ‘’detune’’ the cars for the masses but then again once you start modding when does it end? If you put a quality chip then you must upgrade many other components like the stock muffler…etc

I have spent weeks of reading on many Audi dedicated websites to educate myself and make my own decision. Simply put any Chip would simply remap/recalculate your ECU by allowing a much sooner intervention of the turbo in order to increase the boost for additional Torq/HP. I am not an engineer but to me any increase of pressure will affect directly or indirectly other internal components since it is simply a matter of time before premature wear & tear occurs. If you had any risk or something breaking it will happen sooner that is all.lol
To me once again it is a gamble I am not willing to take!

Hope that helps regardless of anyone who says otherwise

Hello AudiMontreal:
Good info from your "humble advice" -
I am just a realtor, so reliability in a car is very vital and of course the LOOK also prime reason I drive the Audi. I keep it very clean and it still looks almost like new...
However, my A4 is not a quattro so may be it's more agile? Like you I like to just leave it in the Sport mode ( at all time ) and use the tiptronic only for fun like in the highway. I only use the high Octane fuel. The only gripe is no driving in the winter snow season....
That's the reason I may be considering the A5 in the future..

Hi there..
new to this forum as well... Thought I just throw something out there.

My idea to an engine upgrade is to bring the power to today's 2.0T. For instance, the 2.0T on 2011 A4's are rated at 211hp and 265lbtq about!! IT seems to me that the engine is practically the same ...and I don't think they have changed
internal componants for the increase in power. Therefore, I would be interested in a first stage upgrade only.

Also, the TTS has what...265hp and about 256lbtq on the same 2.0T. What have they really changed on the engine??? probably the DV valve and maybe a slighly bigger turbo!! However, stage 2 from unitronics offers same numbers.... Maybe Audi has only done an upgrade on the ECU with some minor upgrades. In the end, I tend to believe that the internal components are the same as the regular 2.0T with 200hp and 207lbtq!

Again, just throwing my thoughts out there....
Whats are your thoughts??

Those chips don't do anything. A real ecu flashed software is going to run you about $500-600. Go with either APR, GIAC, REVO, or Unitronics depending on what dealer is close to you. Do some searching on those companys and you'll get your answer on what suits you best.
HAHAHAHAHA TOO FAST.............Its never TOO FAST !!!!!!!!
