OIL recomendations for V6 3.0L - Help clear my confusion

Re: OIL recomendations for V6 3.0L - Help clear my confusion
Mike, I'd recommend switching to the Castrol 5W-30 (commonly referred to as German Castrol because it's the only one made in Germany) - it's a full Group IV oil, versus the Group III rating of the 5W-40. It's vastly superior, not much more money, will last a lot longer before shearing down, and is nearly a 40-weight oil (something like 38-weight) despite its rating.
Liquimoly and Motul are also great options! Motul makes some seriously high-end oils that are Group V (Ester-based only).

I also use Amsoil Euro formula.. It's been good so far.. but I have noticed after about 4000km I need to top up... what is the correct amount to fill when doing an oil change..is it 7 quarts???

Went to Cdn tire this morning as they have mobile 1 5 litre jugs on sale for 25 % off
They have Mobil one 5w-30 synthetic.. wonder if that would be ok?

Just to let you guys know, Canadian Tire and Part Source are owned by the same company; and, the same oil sales usually happen within a few days of each other - handy if the one store is out of stock.

I use Mobil Delvac.. think it's 5W40. Read about it on AW a few years back... apparently has some detergents in it that help keep the engine clean. Probably explains my almost 0 readings on DriveClean!

Depending on climate and how you drive, 10K KM is pushing it on an oil like the Group III Syntec. Of course, there's no way to know for sure without oil analysis.

unless you are pushing the car all the time towing and/or driving alot of short distances then nothing to worry about..
I was changing every 5-6 but now doing it closer to 10k... maybe in the winter I'll do it 7-8 thousand due to the cold sub zero temps

Other than the Castrol 0-W30, Delvac is quite superior to the rest of the Syntec line. The non 0-W30 Syntecs shear down rather easily, and I would not run 10K KM without oil analysis. Just saying it's okay is meaningless; you need data to be sure. As you said though Rob, it depends greatly on your engine, your climate, and how you drive. I just know that it would mean disaster for me, or anyone similar, so I discourage blanket statements that could be misleading.
