Newbie intro, and A4 1.8T questions.

Hello All

I'm a newbie. Actually I'm not even that. I don't own an Audi yet but I'm very close.

I'm looking at a very clean (showroom clean) 05 A4 1.8T Avant Quatro with about 96000 kms. No service records but I'm taking it to my Porsche/Audi/BMW mechanic for a ppi. although he's surely going to tell me I'm out of my mind looking at something with no records.

What kind of nasty stuff should I prepare myself for with this kind of mileage? The car really looks brand new. You could eat off the engine! So I'm hoping it's been well looked after. I've owned a couple of early Porsche 911s. So, I'm well acquainted with how quickly issues can get way out of control. On the other hand my current daily driver is a 10 year old Toyota. I've been totally spoiled with that car. Never a problem beyond regular scheduled service, brakes and shocks. That was it.

The A4 will be primarily for my gal. She needs uncomplicated. I'll supervise the maintenance etc.

There it is. Do I back away now or plug my nose and jump into the Audi pool?

Any guidance, observations or wisdom you could share would truly be appreciated.

Thank you. Cheers

A.T.

Get the car scanned see if there are any codes or issues. Check if the timing belt has been replaced, if not thats pretty much immediate right there and then while its at the mechanic. Replace the timing belt and water pump at the same time as well as the pully. Costs about $900-$1500 for all of that.

^ that, the mileage is pretty close to get the water pump changed anyways (usually around 100,000-110,000), might as well do it as a preventative measurement now then later.. i have experience with the latter .. lol. Other then whats already mentioned there shouldnt be any hidden issues.

I am just curious how much is it costing you ? Since I have Same car with around 86k and complete service record from Audi & even Premium Fuel receipts. I am planning to sell it within a month or two, So will help me in estimating pricing
