Default Maintence

Hello all, i just got back from some service done on my Audi and i got some info that was new to me, well some of it. Im due for my 115K service soon and the dealership quoted me 576$ + tax.

They then informed me of an oil leak that was eroding my tubes and i needed to replace my Valve cover,Cam Adjuster gasket and Coolant Flange which brings the total to 821$ + tax

This seem fair? i was debating on taking it to a local shop to see how much they would charge, and inspect that leak ( which i saw no evidence of ) or is that just a waste of time/gas lol.

Thanks!

In my opinion, it's never a waste of time to get a second opinion. I recently had to get my steering rack replace. My first quote was $2,000 and I ended up getting the job done (with OEM Audi Parts) for $1,150. That's quite a difference and I was glad I shopped around.

Very true thanks! they also quoted me for my timing belt and water pump change but i had all that replaced well before it was due to an overheating issue haha, so i just didnt add that into the pervious post since i would of just asked them to deduct it, anyways i will try to get a second opinion, but we have a snow storm coming haha so im stuck for a solid day in the house.

Any other opinions?!

Try and get setup with an independant Audi mechanic in your area. It's cheaper, they know your car, and usually they won't screw you over on costs.

The dealer is fine but it just costs money. In the end you get a expensive rental car.

i would recommend asking the mechanic to show you the oil leak and prove to you that you really need this fixed. Also what are they going to do for 576 plus tax for the 115k maintenance?

I have been told many many times over the years about things that were needed to be fixed on my car that never needed to be fixed at all.

I would also say be very careful with the dealer. They are the highest price point in the service industry for car repairs. Yes the have great diagnostic equipment, and easy access to OE parts but you pay for that.

as for what they said about the maintence it was :

-replacing spark plugs
-pollen filters
-brake/trans fluid

its and additional for the repairs that was causing the "leak"

I don't know how handy you are but things like plugs, and filter you most certainly can do on your own. Check out some of the DIYs for assistance.

Try B&L motors in Waterloo, they specialize in VW and Audis and are very good people to deal with.
