Hi guys,
I have a A4 B6 2003 FWD CVT 1.8T
My dipped headlight is dead.

I'm the 3rd owner of the car and i dont have the manual to check.

Tried to check at the closest autoparts but the guy asked if it is HID because thats all they have. The only thing i know is that it's a stock bulb and not a HID.

The stock bulbs are branded sylvania

i checked on a couple of online parts shops but, the choice is huge and i'm confused about what bulb to buy.

My question is, is it a stock Xenon ?

Any one knows what kind of bulb it takes ?
do you i have to change the right side too, to avoid color variation ?
Does it worth it to upgrade to HID ?

Thank you guys for your help

Re: Looking for the correct Bulb

I think all B6 models came with projector headlights so it's difficult to just tell from your picture what bulb you need. Xenon and HID are identical; the other option you might have is halogen which is an H7 bulb.

If you open the hood, is there anything on the headlight housing that includes a warning about high voltage etc; look for a symbol that looks like a lightning bolt.

Given your car is a FWD CVT I'm suspecting it's most likely the H7 halogen bulb, since that was the entry level but it's quite possible the Xenon/HID was added as a factory option.

One of the best place to look for the bulb you have is the Osram-Sylvania website there: Osram-Sylvania Lamp replacement guide

Looking at the picture on the driver side, it does not look like HID. But as A4audi4fun is saying, look for the hight voltage warning. An other way to tell is if your lights are quite blue when you turn them on and then turn whiter as they warm-um. This is a sign of HID.

In any case 2003 were not bi-zenon therefore the high beams are halogen H7 bulbs in both cases (Halogen or optional zenon low beams).

No need to change them both at the same time but it would not be wasted as you might have a small difference in color (no big deal as they are the high beam) and there is a chance you will have to change the other one within a year.

It is not worth upgrading to zenon unless you change the entire housing and go OEM. Zenon bulbs (together with ballast) in a non zenon projector is not ideal. Plus you will need to change the car settings with a VAG-COM cable to tell the car BUS that you have zenon (different wattage)

Hi guys,

Yes it looks like a projector.

Thanks a4audi4fun and Beaven X5 for the inputs

I checked the Sylvania website lamp guide, tt looks like i have an H7 BULB but i will double check under the hood.

QUESTION:

This is sold on ebay by pair
I'm assuming that:

1 bulb for High beam
1 bulb for low beam

Logically, the low beam is the smaller one ?

Re: Looking for the correct Bulb

Low Beam and High beam are h7 and fog light are H11
