Jerky / Stutter noise
Hey guys,
my '03 A4Q started to get all jerky today when I drove back home from work.
I filled up the gas this morning, and had zero problems driving to work. I did about 70kms when the engine started to rev up and down (slightly) on a stop light. It really got me worried. The engine light was also flashing. I left the car, hoping that it would get better... checked it a few minutes ago (on park for 7 hours) and the problem persists.
Have you got any idea what could be wrong?
I did some research prior to posting and found the following symptoms:
- Coils (replace all?)
- Fuel filter?
If you have any insights, please let me know.
I'm going to take it to the shop first thing Monday morning.
Thank you,
H

Thanks for your response.
Is it safe to drive the car regardless of the RPM going up and down and the engine light flashing? It only happens in low RPM.
What do you think?

Re: Jerky / Stutter noise
Well its not hard to change the coils and I wouldnt drive it to places where it is not necessary to the shop a one time deal i think would be okay! Dont spend $250 on a tow truck, go buy the coils and replace them they are a fiarly easy thing to do

Which could would I look for?
I've got a family friend who is good with cars, I'm sure he can change them.
Are coils standard? or does the A4 take specific coils?
Would local shops have them?

Would 30km hurt if I drive her down to the mechanic? I'm not loosing a lot of power on high RPMs... I mean what if it's not the coils? The mechanic can get it scanned and find out the exact problem..

Re: Jerky / Stutter noise
First thing I would do is try and find someone with a Vag-Com. Which is Marko_tomas...in your area and private message him and see if he can do a scan for like $20 vs dealers $120
Click here for the thread and click on his name and go to Send a Private message Hopefully he does it for you and it is way way cheaper and you get the same scan as the dealer.
