How much life is left in my A4

Re: How much life is left in my A4
I don't know where you are getting your work done but them prices are really high. I bought mine with 150k and here is my summary:
2010 work:
Timing belt + Head Gasket seals + refilling of A/C: $950 (had them done at the same time)
Heater core flush: $50
17" alloy rims + snow tires (slightly used on kijiji): $600
So considering the tires are not a repair just forked out $1000 (I did not include regular maintenance, filters and oil changes)
2011:
Replacement of cam shaft sensor: $270 (includes $110 to have the car towed... it wouldn't start)
Replacement of windshield: $280 (the only item I paid tax on)...
I suggest you start shopping around and get your work done elsewhere or something because it looks like somebody is bleeding you dry.

Re: How much life is left in my A4
Hi guys,
My 2004 A4 3.0 with 125,000 K's on it has been a nightmare recently. Am I just going through a rough spot or should I take it as a sign to get rid of it and move on.
2010 Work:
Timing Belt - $1,300
Ignition Coils - done under recall
Fuel Pump - $700
Wiper Motor - $450
2011 Work
Steering Rack - $1,200
Water Cooler Reservoir - $200
Flywheel - $1,000 + (it's going in next week)
Total: $4,850
Maybe it's just me but I think that almost 5K in repairs over the last 12 months for my car is a bit much.

is the steering rack a common problem with the 3.0?

Re: How much life is left in my A4
i have to agree with the above... looks like you are paying almost double what you should be for a lot of those repairs... $700 for a fuel pump!?!
anyway, i think you just hit a rough patch.... usually the 3.0 is a fairly reliable car. and the timing belt is not a repair, but routine maintenance, just like an oil change. also, the fuel pumps tend to go after a while on these cars, so since your fuel pump and timing belt are now done, why would you sell your car to someone and basically give them a gift of a car that will not need much maintenance for the next few years?
as always, how long the car lasts depends ultimately on the maintenance you give the car. take proper care of it and do the proper service, and your car will last much longer.

Re: How much life is left in my A4
It's not a money issue. I just find the whole thing frustrating. I always believed that Audi was a quality car and as a quality car, the fuel pump, steering rack, wiper motor, etc.. should last for more than 120K's. Maybe my expectations for my Audi are too high. Hopefully it's just a rough spot (as Jordan said). I do like my Audi

I would suggest that you try to find a trustworthy mechanic and really try to understand each and every repair. I like to discuss the repair with the mechanic until I am convinced that I agree with the diagnosis. I then stay and wait for the repair to be completed.
I found by doing this my repair costs have gone straight down.
I used to be frustrated about my Audi, but now I realize the car was just fine. The mechanics were ripping me off blind with their unecessary repairs.
e.g. I recently needed an upper rad hose and the mechanic at the Audi dealer told me that in order to replace that rad hose, he would have to replace my thermostat and it would take 4 hours labour plus cost of the hose and thermostat. This didnt feel right to me..so ..I took it to another mechanic and he replaced the rad hose in front of my eyes in about 20 minutes . He said the thermostat issue was a bunch of BS.
When I asked him how much, he said 30.00 . I happily gave him 60.00 for labour plus 20.00 for the hose.
Probably would have been 600 plus with the Audi mechanic
That is my experience
