Hey everyone, I've owned my 2002 audi 3.0 with automatic transmission for 2 years now. I bought it from its original owner when it had 140k on the clock, and it's turning to 185k right now. It had a lot of problems since I got it. It cost me around 5k to fix all those little problems. But I still really love this car. I have changed my timing belt, waterpump, batteries, and break pads after the first week I bought it. It runs, well, not mint, but still ok. I wonder how many more kilometers I can put on it from now. Most people think the car can run at least another 50k with no engine and transmission problems. Anyone has an audi this old that still think their audi will run more? Thank you.

Yeah, what are the signs of a going bad transmission? does it rev high at low speed or gears? any noises?

I have the same car. I have only had it for 4 months. did u do time belt change? could you post the problems you have encountered maybe? Im guessin you use premium gas and oil right? You had to deal with engine sludge at all? I just joined this forum and I would say try and ask as much as you can. Very helpful folks in here. Take Care.

i have a 1996 audi a4 2.8 5 speed with just over 245k. runs strong smooth. hope it last double or even triple of what it has now. just spent a pile in lots of new parts and including new body parts from a couple of run ins lol. any power upgrades? i only have a aem intake and a magnaflow rear mount muffler.

This is another one of those we really can't tell you a driect answer threads.

The good thing though is you bought it from the original owner so that means you should have a pretty good idea of how it was maintained from new. WHat makes a car last, its how its treated. A neglected car will obviously quit on you much earlier than a well treated car.

Proper maintenance, propper oil.. etc etc will extend the life of a car dramatically. You have owned the car for 2 years and invested 5k into it in repairs which also sounds like includes reg mainenance. That does seem a bit high but at the same time, now those issues are fixed or maintained, is there anything else that seems to be going wrong with the car? no??? then that 5k could last you 3-5 more years before having to do another major repair. As in your on top!

I don't know the 3.0 well at all.. I can tell you this, our last A4 which was a 2.8 lasted to 400 000k before we sold it.. My current A4 2.8 is at 215 and drives like it is brand new. No lack of power in either motor i have/had. I have heard good thigns from people who know the 3.0, and to be honest I think these "most people" who say it will only last 50 more k are very inaccuarely wrong. As long as you take care of it, it will take care of you.

If there is obvious evicence of neglagence and these people who say it will only last 50 more K, then they obviously know more than I do... But its hard to look at a car and say yup, 50 more K and then shes toast. Thats called guessing and guesses never have a real answer.

The engine is good up to 450k or more, the tranny goes at 290 to 320 IF YOU CHANGE FLUID.
The AC replacement is at 220. Tie rod ends are coming at 190.
Wheel bearings are at 190.

You can get used tranny for $2000 , same with the engine so not a big deal.
The car desintegrates after 22 years so yours will be on the road till 2024 or so.

Your Five thousand sounds good. Other people with Dodges or Fords just dump the car and get a new one and this is even more expensive.

i have a complete bilstein control arm kit, bilstein coilovers, kyb strut mounts, ebc red stuff brake pads for front and rear, ebc drilled and slotted rotors for front and back, rear oem control arm bushing, ngk plugs and hot wires, cv boots, steel braided brake lines and fuel filter. i know its a lots of stuff but not all was in need of repair. lots of parts were just uprgaded improvements. i would much rather spend the money on a older car than spend a fortune on buying a decent new car. audi might be a little costly with some repairs but they hold out a lot longer than a domestic would and its better quality all around. i am only 22 and i am planning on keeping my car for as long as possible. right now i am in the process of tricking it out as much as possible without making it look cheesy. after all the mechanical repairs and upgrades are done it will be getting started with body work. i have a new oem hood but am intrested in a carbon fibre one i seen on ebay, 2 new oem fenders, new oem bumper cover and new oem grill. the car is silver right now but i was thinking of changing it to nagaro blue but have no idea what id be getting into cost wise. only big problem i have right now with my car is my exhaust. the car is lowerd with eibach springs and because the suspension is soft, the exhaust likes to kick the pavement and its taking a beating. been to the garage about 11 times since last september getting weld patches in my exhaust. i no longer have cats anymore. its manifold, straight pipe, mid muffler to rear muffler. with the deleted cats i now have a annoying sound when accelerating. my car now sounds like it has a tin can for an exhaust. is this because of the deleted cats? of is it because of cheap piping used by the garage to replace the cats?
