For most of my life my father has been running all-seasons on his chrysler and its never been a safety issue in snow, ice, or any winter situation. Most people say in Ontario, winter tires are a must but I have experienced otherwise. Also seeing as how it doesn't snow all the time, my audi has quattro and the roads/highways are dry most of the time.

So is anyone here running high performance all-seasons in the winter with good success? and how do they perform in the summer?

i have the sport 17" wheels and will have to buy winters and then summers again come spring. College budget so im thinking all-seasons will be more affordable alternative.

i run my all seasons year round.

i've had the same set on my car for about 2 yrs now, and its been thru 2 winters; two of the toughest winters for tires in a long time.

i have a 2008 A4 S-line with 18' rims, on low pro tires...
keep the speed down in the snow, and keep a good distance, and no stress.

just my 2cents.

How do you drive your A4? Like a granny or like you stole it?

Good winter tires allow you to have so much more fun on snowy roads.. it's well worth the expense! It also allows you to put proper tires during summer.

Get snow tires. Here's my logic. Getting used 17" A4 rims and snow tires cost me around $800. It's a one time cost. My insurance deductible is $1000. In my opinion it's all about stopping distance. In a panic situation in the snow, snow tires will stop your car faster than all seasons 100% of the time.

I just bought my car in March - so this will be my first winter. I've owned 4WD's my whole life - it comes down to how good your A/S tires are and REMEMBERING that you do NOT have snows on.

I have the Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S - they are reported doing very well in the snow (but I'm sure not as good as GOOD snow tires) - so I intend to go through the first snowstorm in the city with it. At that point I will judge.

I've never been in an at-fault accident in Ontario - let alone in the snow doing 50,000km/year. It's all about how you drive.

Sadly, there are MANY, if not all of us out there who go and get snow tires and then think you're invincible.

4x4 doesn't help you stop - neither does being an idiot who just bought snow tires....that's my 0.02$.

For what it's worth, my old Infiniti had the Michelin LTX MS - all season tire. It beat out snow tires I had...mind you, they were the Fortera Tripletred from good year (yes, it has the snowflake).

It's not just about traction in the snow. Snow tires are made from a rubber that stays piable at lower temperatures. Below ~5C, all-season rubber will not perform on dry roads as well as a snow tire.

If you ever run with snows, you'll never go back to three-season tires again.

I hate when people say I just drive slow. People who have winter tires drive normaly and who doesn't create traffic.

If you are worried about money, I just bought a set of nexen winguard231 from Walmart for my 17's at $83 a tire. Or have a look around for a good set of second hand winters.
