gas mileage is ridiculous on 1.8T!

You can reduce gas consumption by doing this
1. Go to liquor store and get a flat box for 24 beer. Put it in front of the radiator. The engine will warm up faster and use less gas. You do not have to worry about overheating at all.
2. Add 100 ml of acetone to gas tank. Acetone is cheap. Buy it at Canadian Tire, but be aware that if you ask them either they have it they will say no as they have no clue what this is and since it is not a drug and they don't get high on it, it is left in the unknown area of their brain.
You can find it where body work supplies are.
I know that everybody ridicules me for this idea but this is fuel consumption reduction by 20% guaranteed. The reason for this is that acetone molecule is on the move all the time and so it bangs into other liquids causing them to evaporate. It makes gas burn more efficiently. So that 2 liters of gas that escape through the exhaust now will be used to power your vehicle.
I tested this on A6 and A4 and it works. The only thing that I am uneasy about is that I am used to go and fuel up once I drove 400km. With acetone I still have 20 liters in the tank at 400 km so I keep thinking that the gas gauge is wrong.

Re: gas mileage is ridiculous on 1.8T!
a lot of things affect mileage. To name a few
Air filter
Fuel filter
Spark plugs
Coil packs
Type of fuel
Tires... Type, tread, properly inflated? Rolling resistance
Hot days, cold days
Weight
Windows down? up?
Use AC all the time?
Driving style. do you drive like a retard or do you drive like an F1 racer? Hint***** Driving like an F1 racer but doing the speed limit actually SAVES you gas as opposed to driving like an idiot who guns it off the line and then brakes hard all the time. Example-- Learn heel and toe shifting, apex turning and proper braking and accelerating in the turns.
Want your car to get better mileage?
- Change the oil every 3-4 months regardless of kms. Use 0W30 SYNTHETIC (That's what the 1.8T leaves the factory with and what is recommended)
- Keep the tires inflated to the proper specs
- Change your air filter, oil filter, fuel filter ALL THE FILTERS!
- Lastly keep it light!!! Get all your shhh-junk out of the car. It's not your closet so don't treat it like one. Keep it clean and tidy.
This should definitely help.

Re: gas mileage is ridiculous on 1.8T!
Same car (A4 B6 CVT) - somebody else's -, 1100km on one tank of gas, highway driving. Hard to believe but I have to give kind of credit to that person: when I drove to Toronto, the trip computer told me that I can drive 990km with the remaining gas in the tank. I was waiting for 1000, but it didn't show.
In the city I had never had a mileage less then 650km.
Always warm up the car, slow driving, proper tire pressure, clean air filter, etc.
One time, Germany driving conditions - 150km/h -, A3 2.0T manual 6 speed, the trip computer said the car is consuming 5L/100km.

Re: gas mileage is ridiculous on 1.8T!
I live in Vancouver so alot of hills. I do about 50/50 highway city so I do expect more. I guess I can do all those changes to my car to ensure better gas mileage but would I be spending more than the savings on gas?
I keep my car storage clean all the time.
