Fuel consumption problems - Audi A4 2002 B6 Quattro
Hello everyone, I just got a used Audi A4 2002 about 2 months ago. Exept the reae disks and brake pads to be replaced, it did not have a problem on it...
Now I have a check engine light on (Audi dealer said it was a on and off issue that isnt important) and the yellow brake pads light (wire loose on front pads).
My main problem that anoys me very much is the computer that calculate the fuel consumption (L/100km) is acting up and Im affraid that the motor consums alot more fuel than required. At each time I start the car from a standstill, computer says its burning about 3 times the normal rate of fuel it used to (e.g.: used to take 7L/100km in third gear at 70km/h and now says 22 to 30L/100km).
The only way to get the computer to normal is to release the gas, let it go down to 0L/100km then give some gas and release again about 3 times and then its ok until the next standstill... Really bugs me and wanted to know if someone got that problem and what it meant?!?
Thank you for your help and maybe we'll meet up at the next gathering in Montreal

Best way to measure fuel consumption is to fillup; note mileage; fillup when close to empty and manually calculate the consumption rate. Do it a couple of times to get an overall feel. The instantaneous reading is just that and can vary quite widely. Also the calculation itself is know to be inaccurate and VCDS is needed to make a permanent adjustment to the calculation formula.

Do you know of a good connector not too cheap but not too pricey so I can use Vagcom with?? 500$ seem a bit steep for me!

Ask for folks who live in your general region to help out. There are cables on eBay but folks have had varying degrees of luck using them I bought the Ross-Tech cable and it has worked perfectly everytime; agreed exepensive but it has save me hundreds of dollars over the last 4 years on both my Audis.

Hi! SINasTER,
Princess Auto have a sale on at the moment for the Can OBD II diagnostic connector. I believe it $60 (from $89). Best $60 I ever spent and it has paid for itself over and over. Easy to use, resets CEL's and gives full range of fault codes. Simple instruction booklet!

The CAN OBD II is a diagnostic unit and not just a connector cable.
It does not connect to Vagcom.
It is designed to detect fault codes and provide a code read out for interpretation.
It will also reset your CEL's.
Stand alone unit, well worth the small caost!
