Frozen shifter....6spd

So for a week or so now it's been pretty cold here in Southern Ontario and since it hit about -5 my shifter freezes solid over night. The first time I forced it out and thought I broke the damn thing but after it warmed up it shifted just fine.
Does anyone know if this is just lack of lubrication, water trapped somewhere in the shifter. Can I take off the leather boot and lube from there or should I be going from under the car?
I just picked up the car a few weeks ago and this is the first issue. Hope it is a quick fix. Bit of PITA when I'm in a rush.
I searched the net and forums, not much info on it.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Mine does the same thing, 6sp. I just let it warm up i guess. Maybe its the thick tranny fluid. If i change mine and get a difference ill let you know.

It went away after about 4 days. Didn't come back.......yet. It warmed up here so no issues now. But we'll see when the temps drop again. Needless to say I won't be washing it when it's going to drop below freezing at night. I plan on putting in a short shifter this summer. I guess I'll see then if there is a lubrication issue or trapped water somewhere or just a bad design.

Same problem here...I've changed the tranny fluid before winter and it is way better now....it suppose to be -30 during the day tomorrow so if its not fixed I'll know!

Re: Frozen shifter....6spd

So its been -30 for two days now, and since I've changed my tranny fluid before winter, my shifter doesn't freeze at all now. I'm glad

Good to hear. Ya it's been -25 or so here for the last few days and no issues still. In my case some moisture must have gotten trapped in the shifter somehow but has since evaporated.
I may wash it but drive the hell out of her ;> after to get rid of all the water before I park it.
Hopefully that will work.
