Question Solved: Front Left Turn Signal Malfunction

Hi everybody,

I wish this post finds all of you well.

My car is a 04' A4 1.8T. Today it gave me a warning sign and a message on dashboard saying "FRONT LEFT TURN SIGNAL" shortly after I started the engine. I then turned on my left turn and found the relay was flashing very quickly (about 4x faster than it used to be). I checked around and noticed only the front left signal was not working. When I examined the front left bulb closely, I saw both filaments (with one served as daytime running light) were intact inside the amber bulb. I also found the flashing frequency of the emergency flashers was normal despite missing the front left one.

The same problem happened twice before. Both times it went back to normal within about 5 seconds. But this time It seems I've run out of luck with it

Any clues?

Yeah I would say replace the bulb. Usually the sign of the rellay going twice as fast is that the light bulb is out and the usual load is not there so the rellay reacts faster.

Hi 1move,

Thanks for your reply. The bulb looks fine with both filaments intact. The daytime running light is on. So I guess it is not due to a losing touch or short wire.

If the bulbs aren't that difficult to get at, try swapping the left and right bulbs. If the problem persists then you know both bulbs are fine. If after swapping the two bulbs the problem is now at the right side rather than the left, it is definitely a bulb problem.

The problem has been solved. Both of you were right about the bulb. The socket inside the bottom of the bulb was melted therefore caused a short cut.

Thanks 1move and Regina_TTS!

Sorry to revive such an old thread bul the same thing happened to me this week. I replaced the bulb, and now the same thing has happened again!

Is this an issue with a short somewhere or parhaps a bad "bulb holder" or bulb "socket" (the black thing that the bulb fits into before going into the headlight assembly)

What would cause a brand new bulb to go in the same way as the old one (melted\charred socket)

You actually might want to check with an Audi dealer on this one. I noticed you have a B6 A4, but there was a TSB on the B7 A4's to replace the harness. If the TSB includes your car it should still be done free of charge.
