Front brake replacement
Hi everyone,
I'm looking at getting my brakes changed very shortly.
My car pulsates when I hit the brakes. The weird thing is that i'm not getting a brake replacement warning, could there be something wrong?
Any shops you would recommend in the GTA? and how much am I looking at spending for:
a. brake-pad replacement only
b. brake-pads + rotors
any help/advice is greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
H

Re: Front brake replacement
I had a similar problem - pulsation when braking at highway speeds. I had lots of life left with pads and rotors and was able to cure it by bedding in my brakes.
If you're gonna do some replacement - I'd suggest trying to find a used set of B7 A4 brakes from someone who has upgraded as they are awesome compared to the B6 brakes. The only downside is that not all 16" wheels will clear them.
Good luck !

Re: Front brake replacement
Thanks for the tip. I might give it a try.
Gotta find the right place to speed up and brake

Is it normal for the brakes to perform normal and then suddenly pulsate?
They were working just fine a week ago. The local mechanic quoted me $400 for new rotors and pads including labour. Do I really need new rotors? He told me the reason it's pulsating is due to the rotors. Would filing the rotor not help it? $160/$200 for new rotors is quite a lot!
Thanks,
H

Re: Front brake replacement
NP. Rural route is best - I drove out to a country road and beat on the brakes big time (barely started to fade but stunk big time) then drove back without applying brakes for most of the way home ...

Re: Front brake replacement
Hi,
If your getting a pulsation in the pedal it is usually caused by a warped rotor, the pulsation that you feel is the piston in the caliper moving back and forth due to the bump in the rotor when your applying pressure onto it. More than Likely you will need pads and rotors.
If your looking for a shop to do this in the GTA we're located in Oakville, we're $75.00/h labour rate.
If you have any questions about the brakes on your vehicle please don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks,
-Mike
