Question ESP causing "jerk" in transmission?

When I have the ESP on and I push the throttle down from cruising speed or steady throttle like on an on-ramp the transmission or differential "jerks" or clunks a little bit. It is really noticeable when in 4th or 5th taking an on-ramp hitting the apex, and pinning the throttle.

It feels like the car is having a hard time distributing the power to the right wheels? When the ESP is turned off the effect is not there.

Is this normal?

2004 A4 1.8tQ with 6 speed manual.

Sounds like a wheel speed sensor is misdetecting wheel slip and ESP is engaging. Could be a failing wheel sensor or reluctor ring. Try a VAG scan to see if a DTC is present.

Wouldn't the ESP light on the dash flash if it is engaging? What is a DTC?

If it's a wheel reluctor ring or wheel speed sensor, electronic overlays to the ABS system will get confused including ABS itself.

DTC is Diagnostic Trouble Code. What does a VAG scan report ?

I don't know anyone around with a VAG so no scan results. The closest Audi dealer is 140 kms away in Victoria. If I take it to the VW dealer can they pull the codes for me? I'm assuming they will charge me for it though

Anyone around Nanaimo with a scanner?

Cam Shaft Position Sensor problem - it's on this forum somewhere, I had the same problem - no fault codes either - electrical interference based
