Re: engine problem
how were you driving when it happened?
did you punch a hole in the side of your block?
more description needed of the circumstances.
have you tried to start it since?
where is the oil leaking from?

Re: engine problem
I was drivin in my neighborhood about 25 MPH and I tried ones and did not start the engine rotate like the battery was dead and the oil leak was around the oil pan. I just took the oil pan off but didn't do anything else because it was raining.

Re: engine problem
The first thing that jumps to mind is the timing belt, take off the upper cover and make sure there is one on the motor and it is not broken. My next step would be to plug in VAG-COM or a similar product and check for trouble codes. It is not often that the motor will just stop like this unless something electrical has failed or the motor has had a pretty good failure. The oil may not be part of the failure, this may have been leaking for a while and you just noticed it now so check the mechanical and then electrics first.

Re: engine problem
Actually, depending on what broke it may very well explain the oil leak. The two problems may nor may not be related so it can be really hard to track down. A timing belt is a known point of failure so it could cause this and it is easy to check. It could be something as simple as no coolant and the block or something else cracked right by an oil passage and this is where the oil is coming from. I am not really familiar with the V6 used in these motors so I was just throwing out some common problems which can at least be eliminated. If the thing is leaking oil then you should try to track down the leak as this may point right at the problem. If it is failing to start then checking codes is a really good starting point as it can indicate an electrical failure or some mechanical ones as well.

Re: engine problem
I "think" what Adam is getting at, is that if the timing belt broke while driving, there is likely bent valves etc requiring a new head (probably $1500-2000) plus a full timing belt/water pump kit, plus labour, which may indeed make it cheaper to do an engine swap.
