He reset the computer, hoping it would fix the problem but the lights have come on again. So, if he is right, that is what your problem is. However I would love to know if there is a way to fix the problem less expensively.

Hi,
I have the exact same problem like you do. Today I had to restart the engine twice while driving on the highway-scarry.
I was just wondering if you got it fixed...what was it...and how much it costs?

Thanks

Just happened to me too!!! On the highway to boot!

Tonight I took the ECU cover off and the whole back of it was cracked along with the back 2 bolt holes broken off as well. The bottom of the ECU was filled with water and 2 of the 3 relays were rusted out inside and filled with water and muck. ECU is still sealed and OK. Dried everything out and sprayed the connectors down with brake cleaner to clean out any corrosion and muck. Everything is OK now besides the 2 relays which need replacing.

However on the way home from my folks after doing the work my ECU, my EPC light came on and my car lost all power and stalled on the highway!! I restarted it and it ran 100% but the EPC stayed on. You think this is all related, I would assume so but? Time for a VAG scan tomorrow.

bought my 2000 A4 almost 4 months ago, 140,000k and cosmetically it's a real head turner. Problem is the last owner kept it clean and tidy but it still hasn't had the $1000 timing belt job. The check engine light came on 3 weeks ago days after i noticed a loss of power. The next day i went to the shop a had him do the diagnostic laptop check ($100) it showed the o2sensor needed to be replaced ($600 with spark plugs/boots and that diagnostic check). The tech at the shop pulled and cleaned the air flow sensor free of charge. my car ran f'n amazing for the next two days then the check engine light came back on and i lost half the cars power and fuel economy. Went back to the shop today and learned it needs the air flow sensor ($200 and change plus labor). pheew sorry for rambling. Can't wait for the horses to come back.
