Arrow DRL and HID Kit Help!

Hey guys, new here. I just bought my first audi and it came with a HID kit that was orderd on the internet (aftermarket). It has no daytime running lights now. The HID's are too powerfull so they flicker when they are used as DRL. How do i take out the HID and put the normal ones in. I read that you have to enable DRL somewhere. I had the bulbs needed. Its just that i need housing. Can anyone help? Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. Before posting any questions please use the search feature and you will probably find what you are looking for. Here is a recent thread by one of our members that might help.

^I don't think he needs another set of HIDs.

OP, did the PO install HIDs and not fix the DRLs? Can you specify a little more.

Your HIDs flicker? bad ballasts!

No ficker, they work fine. I want to remove them completely to put stock back but cant! I bought H7 bulbs and they dont fit in the headlight assembly. I have looked for hours and hours for a housing but cant find one or cant find a picture if it does have a housing. The HID's work fine its just there not daytime running lights so i have to take them out. I have no idea what he did, either take a relay out or something but its really pissing me off!!!!

I'm assuming that Mike forwarded him to this thread to show him links to headlight replacements. BTW, not all flickering related problems are due to bad ballasts. Poor grounding may also be a culprit and so can a number of other things.

Check to see if he disabled the DRL's. The previous owner must've grounded the DRL's. HERE is a DRL disable thread. This might help you trace if the previous owner did in fact disabled them. Hope this helps!

UPDATE 01-11-2010:This is apparently not a permanent fix. This afternoon my DRLs were on again.
Really! I found this over in the VAG-COM forum....

Your friend should be able to turn DRLs on and off without VagCom. Just use the indicator stalk as I have described below. So you may have to come up with something else to offer. For example - the number of courtesy flashes the indicators give on momentary activation. default is 4 and you can set 1 to 5.
To change DRL state:
Left = DRL OFF
1) Headlight switch to OFF,
2) Select Left indicator while
3) Simultaneously holding the stalk hard back towards you to flash the lights while
4) Simultaneously cycling IGN on for a couple seconds - until you hear the DING.
DRLs are now OFF.
Right = DRL ON
1) Headlight switch to OFF,
2) Select Right indicator while
3) Simultaneously holding the stalk hard back towards you to flash the lights while
4) Simultaneously cycling IGN on for a couple seconds - until you hear the DING.
DRLs are now ON.

Worked on my TDI like magic
Got in the car, closed the door. Engine off, key in ignition, but not "on". Using the turn signal lever, I turned the left signal on while pulling it towards me, then I turned the key to the "on" position. Six "dings" later, the DRLs were off. Turned key "off"

From vwvortex. Might work.

Wonder if this works on B5's, I think I might try this! :thumbsup:

Thanks alot for your impute i appreciate it alot. Just a question, do these work with the HID Conversion kit? I would love it to but if it dosent, gotta do what you gotta do.
Ill try this once i get back from work

Edit- I tried this many times. They still do not turn on. I have a vag com but cant find any clear instructions on how to do it! I really need to get this done ASAP since the holidays are around the corner and the saftey place are close on holidays. I have vag com HEX+CAN and version 10.6.3. Does anyone have instructions on how to do this with a vag com? Thanks!
