Default Daytime Running Lights

I'm just in the process of securing a 2004 A4 1.8T. The dealer is willing to make sure I have the DRL's working, but just has no clue how to do it. They think it will require some serious work. I know a ton of guys have had it done on this forum, so they are asking if I can let them know what has to be done. They are not used to selling to canadians, but are being very helpful.

Can someone guide us?

Use the vag-com and set the country code to Canada. That is all that is required to activate the DRL from everything that I have read.

Anybody else can confirm this to be 100% true?

Yes it's true. Change it from x?xxx 1 to 4. I have just done this myself at my shop.

They probably use a VAS5052 or 5051 The country code can easily be changed from a 1 to a 4 I belive in the VAS main menu, and your DRL's will be up and running there is no additional wiring to be done and vag com is what veedubin69 said

Thanks guys, I ended up buying an A4 yesterday, and I pick it up next weekend in Indiana.

Can anyone here recommend a shop in Ontario that can engage my DLR's? I live in North Bay and I know there won't be anyone to help me here with hit. I will be in Toronto around March 17-19th.

Any VW or Audi dealership should be able to do this for you, especially if you tell them specifically what code to change. But they'll charge as much as an actual VAG-COM cable will cost you (esp. a cheapie EBay kind, which usually work OK). If you can't find anyone nearby on this list with a VAG-COM you might try asking around in another forum (audizine etc.) Also try VWVortex - the interface is identical for VW and of course there are plenty more vdub owners out there.

I'm going to be in Ottawa next week. Can anyone recommend a shop that can engage the DRL for me. The closest Audi dealership to me told me it will be 2 hours of labour, plus any parts required but could not quote on the phone....I don't feel like getting hosed, so I would like to have it done in Ottawa next week.

Thanks guys

Find someone on here with a vag-com or purches one yourself it will pay itself of just by doing the DRL's it is costly at first but you forget about it soon after knowing that you didnt have to bend over at the dealer!

I've read a few posts on how to do it, and ebay has all kinds of vag com cables for sale, is there a particular cable I should look for?

I'm a little hesitant to jump in there and do it myself only because I would worry about messing things up.

Is it simple to do?
