Coolant leak somewhere. help ! - 04 A4 1.8T

My coolant in my Audi keeps depleting in a few months, which is definitely not normal. I took it to a local mechanic and they did a pressure test and said they couldn't detect any leaks.

I need to fix this ! I don't want it to become a bigger problem then it needs to be. And I don't want to go to a stealership.

Any suggestions for good and fair local shops around Toronto / Scarborough to look into this. Or has anyone had a similar problem ??

Thanks in advance.

Leaky coolant container - on my 2005 A4 3.0 there was a hairline crack on the underside. Should be able to see evidence of leaking though - look for white powder around the engine bay; I noticed seepage down in the water pump area as well on mine.

What side is the leak on? if its on the passanger side leaking onto the exhaust it could be your coolant flange or a hose connecting to it.

I am having the same problem... It is on the passenger side but mine leaks out at least twice a day. It seems like it is right behine the head. Any suggestions?

Could be the pressure flange/valve (I think that's what it's called). It's a plastic coupling mounted on the rear of the block. The gasket tends to ware after time or the coupling could have just cracked. It's not a huge issue and is somewhat costly to fix. It will cost a bit because the coolant will need to be drained before the repair can be done. Unless you are topping it up every day, I would wait till it gets worse if that is an option. I know mine leaks, and I only see it on my driveway once a month.

Thanks. I took it to a mechanic and he told me the leak was coming from the head gasket. Not good. :( I want to get a second opinion so I am going to take it to another guy tomorrow.

Did you ever get a second opinion? I would think its the coolant flange at the back of the motor which is leaking.

If you can't see the leak anywhere, another place to check in that back of engine area is the j-plug. It's a little plastic bit (shaped like a J...) that hide under the thermostat assembly. They commonly crack and slowly seep coolant at the rate you describe. The part itself is pretty cheap but I think there is a fair bit of disassembly involved if I remember correctly.
