Coil pack replacement

Coil pack replacement
Hey guys,
I've recently replaced all my coil packs and threw the old ones in the trunk to be re-used in the future... if at all.
I was wondering:
- if it is safe to use the old ones
- what the safest way is to check which coil has gone bad
It's quite pricey to have to replace them all every time one/two go bad.
Thanks,
H

Re: Coil pack replacement
no need to replace all of them when 1 or 2 go bad! to test them you pretty much have to put them on the car. Should only take 5 min to test them. Try one then turn the car on...if it runs well its good. thenturn the car off and try the next...
I had one go bad and i replaced jsut the one. keep one in your trunk. It is safe to use the old ones, just dont allow them to get overly dirty in the truck.

Re: Coil pack replacement
If you have the old "L" versions or earlier and their starting to fail, it's cheap insurance to replace all of them.
Personally blew 3 coilpacks in 2 weeks - it can be a pain in the *** if you're nowhere near a dealer to buy a replacement.
"R" versions are so-far-so-good!
My 2 cents.

Re: Coil pack replacement
cheap insurance? what exactly do you mean by that...
my new ones have been good so far.
i get pulsating (700-1100) revs every now and then but nothing major.

Re: Coil pack replacement
i replaced all mine when one of mine blew. i figured if one went, the others are probably on their way out as well. it's only about $40 per coilpack and now they are all the newer revision R's.

Re: Coil pack replacement
$40/each to replace the other 3, and worry free driving from then on.
Folks who are automatic and have a coilpack go, are basically dead-in-the-water unless they know what to do. $120 tow bill = 3 coil packs.
got it?
