Climate Control
Hi, I have a 2004 audi a4 3.0 quattro w/ sport package. fully loaded (minus navi)... I recently noticed that the a/c does not seem to work. Turned temp down to low but it is just blowing air, doesn't seem like the compressor comes on.... I'm not much of a mechanic so I don't know, that's just what it seems like to me.
That being said, I don't have the car manual, so to be honest I don't quite know what all the buttons do
I went to an audi dealership and the two people I talked to apparently didn't know anything about that year of car (said there should be a large A/C button, hahah) and said I should just get it serviced.
Fair enough, but before I take it into the shop I just wanted to know exactly how it works. The + - temperature controls are obvious, I know that econ turns the compresser off... I feel embarassed even asking, but I'm at a bit of a loss.

Re: Climate Control
2004 models don't have an A/C button. The air should be blowing cold when the outside temperature is higher than the temperature on the climate control. If it isn't, then the compressor needs to be recharged.

Yea I know it doesn't have the a/c button, lol the 2 salesmen were clueless, they just stared at it for awhile. So to have it recharged I would need to take it into a shop right? Any idea how much $$$ it's going to run me?

Re: Climate Control
I'm also very curious about this, as I to have a 2004 A4 and i can not seem to get the A/C to work.
You are saying that the outside air needs to be warmer then what the inside controls say, for the A/C to work?
This doesn't seem right to me, I think the high/low switch is gone in our cars. I will let you know what i find out this weekend as that is what I'm trying to figure out this weekend
If you go to the dealer in the next few days, let me know what they say
Cheers,

Re: Climate Control
make sure you get the system checked before refilling it. Because if it does NOT need refilling then you could get into more problems. Not sure what is costs to recharge

Re: Climate Control
robbie_boy: turn off econ button light and ur A/C turns on. Usually on a hot day with econ button on with LOW climate control, it blows barely any cold air, but with A/C on then it should blow crazzy cold air like its winter time.
meistah: sounds like your compressor needs a recharge.

Re: Climate Control
Other possible item is the outside temperature gauge. My gauge goes funny, and will say it is -50 when it is say 20 degree, but the A/C thinks it is starting with -50, and adds heat to get it to the 20 degrees I wanted.
