IT should be in your user manual, hard to describe in words. ITs usually done through the trunk

It's not through the panel in the back. If you look on the trunk floor, several inches behind each light the light you'll see a plastic plug. Pull this out and you'll see a bolt. Unbolt the bolt, and you then can slide out your entire rear light assembly, change the bulb, slide the whole thing back in bolt it up and you're good to go..

Yes, it's ridiculously complicated, but that's the Audi way.

BTW, I've never done it myself, yes... I'm lazy and have the dealer change my light bulbs....

I've done this SEVERAL times. It sounds complicated but is actually very easy to do. Now, the FRONT corner lights... that's a different story!

Sorry, I don't. Just give it a try though, you'll see how easy it is.

1) open your trunk

2) in the carpeted area behind your brake lights there will be a circular plug...its about the size of a tooney...maybe a little bigger

3) use a flathead screwdriver, poke along the edge and wedge the circular cap out...TIP: its not supposed to come completely out...it's supposed to hang on a small piece so dont' rip it off

4) there will be a nut inside...use a long socket and remove the nut

5) the entire rear brake light should come out now...just give it a slight pull

6) there is a plastic piece attached to the rear brake lamp...it has clips on it...hard to explain but the clips aren't tight enough to use a flathead...i got those clips off with just my fingers...take the clips off and the lamp will separate from the the plastic backing...the bulbs are attached to the plastic backing...replace the one you want...and put everthing back together in reverse order

7) DONE!!

lol...the dealership wants half an hour labour for this crap...lol...i laughed and decided to do it myself...trust me...bulbs go out all the time in our cars...best to learn how to change it yourself

PS - my current goal is to learn how to change my front brakes...if anyone is willing to help...i'll be more than happy to pay your for your time...i just need an experienced person watching what i'm doing because i don't wanna accidentally do something that's gonna cause air bubbles in the brake lines or even accidentally take something off which will cause the brake fluid to leak...and i just had the dealership change the fluid about a year ago...i think you gotta change it every 2 years...

The hardest thing about changing the tail light bulbs is not the process but making sure no condensation gets in there after. Both my tail lights are slightly fogged. ARG! I hate that!

Changing bulbs on a 2002 A4 with pictures:
HOWTO Replace a Brake Light Bulb on an Audi A4 Avant Quattro 2002

Apparently one needs to clear the light bulb code using a VAG or similar device: it's not automatical...
