Default Catalytic Converter

Hey guys, I am wanting to take out my catalytic converter and just straight pipe it. Before I do this I just wanted to get any suggestions or anything like that, that would give me some hints on this. My Audi has the 1.8T and dual exhaust. Thanks!

Well theres no emission tests here so i'm ok for that part, and I also want to U clamp the pipe on so if/when it does come around, I can get it back on there without too many problems.

Yes everyone driving behind you will know that there are no cat(s) in your car by the excessive smell of continual high volume environmental pollutants.

Audi does not use "U-Clamps" on their exhausts. You would definitely want to use OEM clamps.

There really is no good reason to run catless on the street. Why not just install a working catalytic convertor? Also how is it possible to have dual exhaust on a 1.8T?

I personally like the sound, that is one of the biggest reasons. I'm not too sure if it's true dual exhaust or not... here's a pic of the back of my car. Going in from the exhaust tips, there are two pipes leading all the way to the cat.

Removing the catalytic convertor will not change the sound very much at all since it's so close to the engine. Removing the cat will trigger CEL immediately and sure there are bypass tricks but again why would you want to mess with that on a street driven Audi. Changing the downstream resonator(s) and muffler(s) typically have most effect on changing sound.

Ah ok, well I knew it would turn on CEL but it's already on due to the cat. It needs to be replaced, this is why I am considering to take it out. But I will also look into resonator and muffler as well. If I have to replace the cat anyway, do you think it would be ok to remove it for a little while till I decide to buy a new cat?

Are there any recalls out for those cats like the VWs?? I have a 2000 golf that had the cat plug up and VW replaced it last year (9 years in... warranty) did not pay a cent... probably worth asking the dealer... my dealer let me know about the recall. Anyone else familiar with this??? I'm sure if it was a VW issue it also could be an Audi issue.
