Default Brakelights are killing me!

Or killing my battery anyway...
When the light switch is left to auto everything is fine; lights come on when its dark & shut off when I turn the car off.
If I turn the light switch off, or fiddle with it in any way while driving, when I turn the car off the lights go off, but when I come back later the brake lights are on!
This has happened a couple of times already.
What gives?

Brake light or parking light/fog light at the rear. Since Auto mode is working fine but manual mode causes problems, I would suspect the switch itself; don't know how much a switch actually costs but it's trivial to remove and replace. Turn the switch to the Off position, push inwards and slowly turn to the right; you'll feel a slight indent position and can then pull the whole switch outward from the dash; disconnect at the connector and replace; takes about 2 mins max

Alright thanks.
Its the parking light, but the third brakelight goes on as well.
It only happens when Ive been messing with the switch, but it killed a battery already

do you have an aftermarket alarm system?

try to leave your car unarmed in a safe place blocked in or inside to see if the same issue happens

k maybe try and see if this why its doing it either way just to make sure. maybe the alarm is going off and when the battery is near dead the lights come on as a warning

Well I've already replaced that battery & it happened again after that.
