Default best engine for modding

I am going to buy my first car soon and it will be either a B6 or B7 a4(probably B6)
I plan on doing a little modification including ECU chipped, probly a sport exhaust, maybe bigger brakes, and maybe a few others (+ clutch rienforcement if needed). I was just wondering which engine type is best for my situation? i would like to get it over 300 bhp if possable so I would assume that it would be best to start out with the bigger 3 liter?

for modding i would go with the either the 1.8t or the newer 2.0t depends wut year a4 you get.... its alot easier to get more hp from a turbo motor than a n/a motor for v6 ur basically down to a supercharger for very noticable hp and torque gains and not sure about the 3.0 liter but the 2.8 has a supercharger from pes for around 5 grand if you drop 5 grand into a turbo motor you achieve more power than a 3.0l but thats just my 2 cents.

Agreed with Chaos, turbo engines are far more cheaper and easier to get more power out of then the N/A... with that said you drop 5g's on a turbo charged engine and you are getting "This kit is capable of 340 horsepower and 332 foot-pounds of torque at the flywheel on 93 octane gas" check APR - Engineered Performance for Audi, Volkswagen, and Porsche Vehicles there are other kits out there

I have a new question regarding engine size. Is it true that the 3.0 liter does not require premium fuel since its not turbo? If so what basic mods could i look at besides a turbo, and would they make the car require premium? gas is an issue in the back of my mind considering its my first car and i only have a part time job due to school.

im pretty sure u still need to use premium fuel. And its just not turbo cars that need premium it all depends if the motor is a high compression one or not high compression motors require higher octane otherwise your gonna get engine knock. and if the price of gas is really an issue to you then you probably shouldnt be getting a v6. A 1.8t even after being chipped is still very fuel efficient especially since you have an option of switching from the stock settings to chiped.

well let me help with the gas question there. Our cars do not needto have premium in the tank. Our cars are pretty damn smart and they will changing the timming depending on the octane level you have in the car. With that being said, you SHOULD use premium for the performance and that is what the car has been tuned to from the factory. And really from the difference in price...5 bucks a tank....use premium. Its one of the costs of driving an Audi.

Second, yes, 1move has a welth of knowledge from reading on here and i agree with him and chaos. The 1.8 is the best engine if your going to do basic moding. If you are trying to get your car to 300hp+, you are no longer "basic moding" though. with basic moding, exhaust, chip, maybe a K04, you will be in the range of 250-300 but closer to the 250 mark. (closer to 300 maybe with a meth kit)

I hope that helps a bit.
