Default Anyone paint their lower valence?

I want to have the lower part of my front and rear bumpers painted to match the vehicle color (2004 A4 silver), I know that I can remove the door blades to have them painted but I was wondering if it is possible to remove the bumper lowers as well, I figure it will be easier to paint them off the car.I cant really tell if they are one or two piece bumpers. Has anyone done this and if so what steps do I need to take in order to do this.

Bump For a good question. I recently bought a b6 A4 and am considering painting the lowers. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this?

Hey thanks for the reply! I am however not inclined to paint it myself. Anybody have this done by a body shop? and if so what was the cost?

honestly... its a waste of time & money taking it to a body shop. Go to canadian tire and get the VW paint.

As long as you take your time and just do light sprinkled coats the paint won't run & it'll go on even. Easy job.

I'll do it for you $100.

Thanks for the offer but I live in B.C. Just out of curiosity did you paint your car?
If so do you have any pics?

with that being said... if you want a smooth effect on your lowers, bondo them first, then sand them with a fine grain sand paper... prime, sand, prime...

then paint...

first layer of spray should barely be visible... should only take 2 mins to dry

do your first 4 or 5 coats like this.... then you can get SLIGHTLY heavier to speed up the process... keep applying light layers until the colour you want is reached. Let it fully dry.

Apply several coats of clear coat, allowing each one to dry in between.

done.

I highly encourage this... if you mess it up, take it in... it wont cost you anymore than it would have in the first place.
