Air conditioning not working
Hi
I just noticed that my air conditioning isn't working. I called my local mechanic and he suggested bringing it in and he would have it tested by another mechanic who does this. He said it often just need a shot of " free on" or something like that, as there is usually a very small leak that can be hard to detect Just wondering if anyone on here has any advice or comments that may help me. The air was working fine last year Thanks |
Re: Air conditioning not working
is it stuck on econ mode?

Re: Air conditioning not working
ok then if its still operating as normal but no cold air is coming out then you probably do have a leak somewhere and it needs to be recharged with r134 or r134a. They dont use freeon anymore.
but when you bring it to a proper shop they will test it for pressure and all that. Take it to a shop that does audi/vw so they can use their Vag-Com to scan the car. It will give them detailed information as to what the issue is regarding your AC. |

Re: Air conditioning not working
r134 is usually very cheap to recharge and it shouldn't cost you very much to diagnose or recharge. But often times the a/c compressor is broken in these cars and they are costly to replace. A/C compressors in these cars are around a 1000 dollars.

Re: Air conditioning not working
Yeah the compressor is $950 but you can pick them up online for $741. Hopefully thats not your issue though.
Anything going wrong with the a/c is usually very costly unless its just a recharge. |
Re: Air conditioning not working
yeah a recharge hopefully is all you need, you may be able to do it yourself if you want to buy the gauges, not a bad tool to have

Re: Air conditioning not working
What they may do is charge your system with a little r134 (or similar) that is neon coloured. You will drive it for a few days then they will check it. They will be able to find a leak that way.
It is a good thing that the Econ light is not on. |
