Question About to buy a4qm, needs moar advice!

Hey everyone!

so my current car is sucking and I'm seriously looking at getting an a4 really soon.

I realize there can be a ton of issues when dealing with this car but it's a great ride and if well maintained...etc..anyway, i tried a wrx and the audi wins hands down for most everything. i dont know of another awd that can stand up to this car, bmw aside because i just dont want to go there

I'm in vancouver - I looked at an '05 a4qm special ed in the states, 55,000kms and i can get it for ~$18,600. seems to drive really well and i can't notice any issues (though service is due in the next 500miles according the computer) and the oil looks a bit dark...buying from the US is kindof a pain, so local would be nicer..

so locally i found an '04 a4qm sport 66,000kms for $18,900, ooor: '04 a4qm 89,000kms for $21,900 BUT it has the audi certified warranty...

are there any real differences (bug fixes or otherwise) between the 04 and 05 that you know of? the impending timing belt/water pump etc maintenance is kindof looming which makes purchasing in this km range a little unnerving...first audi as well. i'm into dyi but i don't really have a garage to work with or limp to. i do have access to one if i want to upgrade things, etc.. while it's drivable.

thoughts? i really appreciate the feedback!

cheers,
- e

any input would be great. I'm talking about buying this week or the next. any great value to the 'overpriced' '04 with the audi certified warranty versus the well priced low kms US '05?

cheers!

Not aware of any major differences between an 04 & an 05. CPO is an insurance policy and does not cover scheduled maintenance (timing belt/water pumps etc unless they actually break during the term). If you have repair work done under CPO you will probably be glad you had it. If you don't have CPO and need repair work you may "kick yourself" because the money you saved has now gone into repairs. If you are 100% sure there won't be repairs, then CPO might be a waste, otherwise...

Ultimately a dealer makes money on CPO so the odds are typically in their favour for no repairs but do you want to be the one to find that out.

All depends on how risk averse you want to be.

Sorry I can't advise you on the reliability of one model year vs the other, but I do know that you can buy the Audi Care maintenance package with a CPO vehicle. This covers 85k, 100k & 115k services for $850. Good luck!
