This is true ... My combined average reflected 100-150 kms more per tank in my A4 than in the S4 with much more aggressive driving in the A4 (primarily due to current winter conditions). If you're concerned about gas consumption go with an A4 but if that's secondary and you want to hear a melodious tone, stay put in super comfy seats and drive a far more refined vehicle, go with the S.

I should mention that with my A4, I always ran Sunoco 94 to ensure safe parameters; however, I use 91 in my S so MY cost differential isn't quite as much as some others may recognize.
