A4 B6 2003 - Reflection after Inspection
Hi guys,
Vehicle: Audi A4 b6 2003 1.8T CVT FWD Sedan base / 200k Got my A4 inspected yesterday and the verdict was horrible : -Valve Cover gasket -Cam chain tensioner gasket -Injector seals leaking - FU L R+F Bushing ripped - FU L+F Bushing ripped - LR R+L Bushing ripped - LR F Ball joint loose -Center muffler - All the brake lines ripped (4) (urgent) Overall everything is fine. I replaced all rotors and brakes in December. The garage estimate between 1000$ to 1700$ parts and labor. and he recommend to consider the timing belt an extra 600$ I bought the car in October for 6000$, I have all the repair history and the previous owner was always servicing at Audi dealers ( very big bills lol ) but there is no record for a timing belt change and I’m unable to contact the previous owner. I'm assuming he never did it. 200K :shock: So now i need your opinions guys, I’m planning to get rid of it ? after replacing the brake lines for safety. Is it worth doing the repairs and keeping it ? |

Fix the major issues and sell it. Get a Quattro! The CVT tranny will crap out on you if it hasn’t already they are terrible transmissions and do not hold up. However you might get more money by parting it out

I don't have an opinion about parting it out but there's no way I would put $2000 into a $6000 car unless I planned on keeping it for a long period of time. And by long I mean like another 100000km.

Your right, i'm feeling it, it's actually knocking between 1000-2000 rpm :( The quattro isn't CVT ? |

The quattro isn't CVT ? In the Quattro or Automatic/Tip-tronic the gears are actual gears with predetermined diameters to have different gear ratios. All Quattros are not CVT. |

For parting out, it was an option, it's very time consuming i don't think i have the patience for lol |

CVT = Continuously Variable Transmission, only came on the front wheel drive cars, the "gears" are predetermined gear ratios that are programmed in.

Is it true that FWD's are faster than Quattros ?

Re: A4 B6 2003 - Reflection after Inspection
All of the parts that you listed above should be replaced arround the 200km anyway. Ive had my car since brand new and replaced them all arround 190. But the gentle men are right get rid of the cvt and the best tranny to go for imo is standard.
214k still runs like day one making 300 awhp all day and its a DD. good luck with what ever you decide to do. P.s if you decide to keep her I recomend changing youre timing belt asap because you would not want it to break on you. Cheers |

Thinking about the cvt vs. 6sp or tiptronic... I gotta think the cvt would be the slowest of all the choices because they are generally compromised towards economy. |
