2004 Audi A4 Tiptronic 1st to 2nd shifting trouble
 

Hello! Needing some advice for this problem. We have an '04 A4 1.8t with the tiptronic 6-speed. Once in a while when going from 1st to 2nd, the car lurches and bangs into gear, almost as if it can't decide which gear it wants. Also, when coming to a complete stop, it sometimes fails to come out of 2nd. The problem seems to be more noticeable under hard acceleration from a complete stop and whilst in sport mode. Different sources claim that a similar problem might be do to a needed software patch. Has anyone else had this problem and figured out a cure? Also, the ESP and ABS lights come on intermittently. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated!

Did a little research, and apparently the valve bodies on these transmissions have a penchant for eating themselves alive. Could this possibly be the culprit?
