2004 a4 quattro 3.0 opinion
Guys: as a noobie to your site and shortly going to be a new owner of an audi a4 i have a few questions. What is the general consensus on the 3.0 engine? i am looking at a 04 a4 quattro 3.0 with the triptonic a/t every option except nav. has 89,000 kms.the owner has all maintenance records since new.i read that the 3.0 is better suited to the auto trans anyway, this is going to be my wifes daily driver hence the auto trans.the price is around $15,000 but he seems willing to deal.HELP i need some feedback quick.THANKS IN ADVANCE

I have a 6-spd 2004 Audi A4 3.0. I like the V6 because it's a smooth engine. It's a bit underpowered considering the weight of the A4, but it's a nice smooth engine with good power at low RPM. I think your wife will like it. However, as a note the gas mileage is terrible. I get around 350KM per tank with a combination of 50/50 city/highway driving.
BTW, 15K is a great price.

We have the 3.0L in a C5 A6. As mentioned it is a very smooth running engine rated 220HP.
We have reached 400KM per tank but the average is between 350 and 400 which is fairly normal for a heavy vehicle.
You will enjoy it!

I love my 3.0. I drive on the highway about 80% of the time, and I get close to 500km per tank. Filling up costs about $50... not terrible, but not great (needs 91 octane!)
The 3.0 has a few extra features over the 1.8T, and I've read that it's a very reliable engine. It sounds amazing when you get near the 4000rpm area too

I've had mine for a year and a half. After the novelty of the handling and phenomenal grip wore off, sure I'd love to have S4 power, but the extra 10K was just not in the cards for me. I also drove the stock 1.8 of the same year and was not impressed with the power.
It is smooth, and I have never had issues passing people when I want to, but tell your wife she won't be squealing the tires when she takes off.

I have an '04 A4 3.0 Quattro. Bought it in 2007 from a dealer and have had no issues. Just maintenance which I have done at the dealer. Probably paying too much but it's still under dealer warranty and I like the peace of mind. Drove the 1.8T but preferred the smoother 3.0 V6 engine. Your wife will enjoy the ride as does mine. But be warned...guys check out women driving Audi's!!

We bought a CPO 05 A4 3.0 QMS in Dec, 2008. Had coilpacks replaced under warranty. Definitely not quick from a standing start but once into 2nd gear and higher the torque curve is really sweet. Very smooth and nice exhaust sound even in stock mode.
Have a 2.0T Avant as well and they are just different vehicles but both are a hoot to drive.
