winter tires
Which tires are the best for the GTA??

Re: winter tires
For my A4 1.8t Quattro, I have just installed a set of Continental Contact Extreme DWS - high performance, all season, DWS is Dry, Wet and Snow.
Top Rated by Consumers Magazine in all conditions (including snow). $700 installed at Green & Ross. They have been fantastic so far on Dry and Extremely Wet. This will be my first year without snow tires, and I am going with a top rated set of all season. I live in Barrie, so I will be trying them in the snow very soon. :thumb::cheers: |

Re: winter tires
I've installed a set of FALKEN ZIEX-ZE 912 on my A4 have been great during the summer, will see how they handle in the winter, although I'm inclined to put the snows on considering I live in Barrie and drive to Toronto for work every day. Has anyone had any experience with these tires?

My jetta on winters, drove wayyyyyyyyyy better than my mom's super heavy lincoln on all seasons. I'm the only one in my family that does the winter/summer switch, but I find it so worth it, I feel such a difference driving my car in the winter compared to other people's. |
Re: winter tires
i have nokian wr-g2 all season (rated winters). Never had a problem with them ever.
People telling you that all-season tires dont work need to get their heads checked. |

People telling you that all-season tires dont work need to get their heads checked. for someone living in barrie, they would probably much more appreciate the advantage of a true winter tire i live in Mississauga, but I drive a TON for work. When I first got my Audi it came with all season, and this past march when there was that nasty storm, I was driving home from markham, I spun out at 10km/h. I am DEFINITELY putting on new winters and scrapping the all seasons! |

it's not that they don't work, they suck in comparison.

I snowboard about 60-70 times a year and have driven in my fair share of snow storms on the 400 extention. |
Re: winter tires
the nokian wr-g2 is an all season but transport canada has approved it to be sold as a winter tire as well. Its a high performance all season but you could say its a winter tire as well.
bottom line is just dont buy **** all season tires. |

again they dont suck. The brand you had or chose probably did.

All season tires are "jack of all trades" and master of none. So needless to say, you want EXCEPTIONAL performance during winter, use winter tires. You want EXCEPTIONAL performance during summer, use summer tires. Pretty straight forward. I'm a marketing field rep so i drive around A LOT for work every day, so I think the extra performance benefit with winter tires is well worth it. My A4 came with Potenza all seasons, so def not a shitty brand. |
Re: winter tires
I'd get Nokian if I could find them...otherwise, Bridgestone Blizzak work well, as do Dunlop Wintersport 3Ds.

Re: winter tires
I have a 2009 Audi A4 with 17", I heard I can get 16" steel wheels for the winter tires (I couldn't find 17" steel wheel, they are all alloy), anyone knows if that will work? thanks~

Re: winter tires
what is the size for your A4? 205/55/16? thanks
|
Re: winter tires
Just picked up a set of Sottozeros 210 for 400$
205/55/16 as anyone have these before? From what I've been reading they are a decent tire. I've been quoted over 800 for the tires so I'm happy I got them @ the price. Tirerack is pretty good!! |
Re: winter tires
I've run all kinds of winter tires, GoodYear, Pirelli, Bridgestone, Dunlop...... In my opinion, any winter tire will get you through the Toronto winters. Just get a set of winter rims and tires and you'll be good. Also as a bonus, your more expensive summer rims can stay salt free. ;-)
